Job Description
As a People Research Scientist at Block, you will conduct advanced research and modeling to solve strategic HR challenges and improve the employee experience. You are someone who excels in research design, statistical analysis, and data storytelling. Your ability to provide consultative guidance, manage multiple projects, and adapt to shifting priorities is essential in driving organizational effectiveness and enhancing employee engagement.
You will:
- Design and execute research studies to understand and improve employee engagement, retention, and performance, utilizing predictive modeling techniques to forecast future trends.
- Develop and refine employee surveys, ensuring they are methodologically sound and aligned with our strategic objectives.
- Analyze survey data to identify patterns, trends, and insights that can inform our People strategy.
- Develop and apply network analysis methods to understand the complex relationships and social structures within the organization.
- Create and refine psychometric assessments and tools for talent selection, development, and organizational diagnostics.
- Implement data-driven strategies to enhance our talent acquisition, development, and retention efforts.
- Present findings and implications of complex predictive and prescriptive analyses to technical and non-technical stakeholders, explaining key insights, strategic importance, and trade-offs among strategic response options.
- Provide timely, accurate, understandable, impactful, and actionable research insights to executives and senior leaders to help inform and refine our People strategy.
- Analyze and interpret large datasets using advanced statistical techniques and data visualization tools.
- Translate research findings into actionable insights and recommendations for senior leadership, ensuring that the implications of the data are clear and impactful.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in people analytics, predictive modeling, network analysis, and psychometric assessment design.
Qualifications
You have:
- Bachelors with 8+ years’ experience, Masters with 5+ years’ experience, PhD with 3+ years’ experience, or equivalent work experience in a field emphasizing applied organizational research and quantitative analysis (e.g., Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Applied/Behavioral Economics, Organizational Behavior, Business Management, Public Administration/Policy, Computational Mathematics, Computer Science).
- 3+ years of combined experience in the following areas:
- Applying statistical tests and modeling techniques (e.g., ANOVA, regression, SEM) in industry, government, or consulting contexts.
- Using large datasets to develop forecasting models/tools.
- Working in HR, recruiting, people strategy/operations, or a related function.
- 2+ years of experience using quantitative research methods for assessment, program evaluation, or related areas.
- Expert proficiency in SQL and R or Python for data manipulation and analysis.
Even better:
- 3+ years of experience applying advanced statistical methods (e.g., multilevel modeling, HLM, structural equation modeling, dimension reduction techniques) to people or organizational research problems in industry, government, nonprofit, or consulting contexts.
- 3+ years’ experience in developing and administering organizational surveys, assessments, and diagnostic tools.
- 2+ years’ experience in project and program management, including process development and improvement.
- 5+ years’ experience in HR, recruiting, people strategy/operations, organizational effectiveness/development, or a related function, preferably within an organization of 5000+ employees.
- People management or mentorship experience is a plus.
Additional Information
Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A: USD $163,600 – USD $245,400
Zone B: USD $152,200 – USD $228,200
Zone C: USD $144,000 – USD $216,000
Zone D: USD $135,800 – USD $203,600
