The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Platform organization at Microsoft builds the end-to-end Azure AI stack/Platform as a Service (PaaS) and is core to Azure’s innovation and differentiation, as well as all of Microsoft’s flagship products, from Office to Teams, to Xbox. We are the team building Azure OpenAI, Azure Machine Learning (ML), Cognitive Services, and the global Azure AI infrastructure for running the largest AI workloads on the planet.

 

The Microsoft Azure AI for Language team is working on cutting-edge Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Deep Learning models to power Microsoft AI products and provide them as services to serve internal and external applications. The team focuses on applying deep learning techniques such as Supervised Fine-tuning (SFT), Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA), Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), and others to solve AI problems such as No-code low-code AI models in Platform, Question Answering on your data, and various customer-facing products.

 

We are looking for a Senior Applied Scientist with a passion for AI quality, the ability to learn, and hands-on experience in delivering AI experiences, which our customers have come to expect.

Responsibilities

  • Keeping a keen eye on the latest developments in the broad AI community.
  • Working with science, engineering, and program management teams to integrate the latest large language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI models and open-source models into production systems.
  • Collaborating with other researchers, data scientists, product managers, and engineers in the team to build tools and improve the end-to-end AI Quality of our production systems.
  • Leveraging data from various sources and domains to design and implement innovative solutions that achieve rigorous metrics and address customer needs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Master’s Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience coding in Python and experience in natural language processing or deep learning.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a deep learning library, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams, such as product managers, designers, researchers, engineers, and stakeholders, and experience communicating & collaborating with leadership.

 

Applied Sciences IC4 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 – $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 – $250,200 per year.
