Scientific Project Manager
Job description
The Clinical Bioinformatics group focuses on the development of state-of-the-art tools for the analysis and interpretation of clinical and translational -omics data, covering a wide range of medical fields. These tools aim at supporting industry or hospitals to facilitate patient management, diagnostic and treatment-related activities. Following the expansion of the SIB Clinical Bioinformatics activities, we are seeking a Scientific Project Manager to coordinate operations related to the development of clinical/surveillance projects and platforms.
This person’s mission will be to:
- Coordinate operations related to the development and maintenance of clinical and surveillance projects or platforms, in collaboration with the project leader.
- Participate to users’ needs collection and documentation (e.g. tools functionalities, ontologies, bioinformatics).
- Organize and actively participate in projects’ meetings, including with external partners (incl. plan meetings and be responsible for agenda and minutes).
- Actively participate in the writing of project proposals, grants, projects’ general communication and scientific articles.
- Package and integrate bioinformatics tools into the groups’ platforms, in close collaboration with the developers.
- Keep up to date with current and future trends and developments within our own field.
- Actively contribute to SIB knowledge sharing and practices improvement.
- Represent SIB Clinical Bioinformatics and other SIB groups in scientific congresses and meetings (internal and external).
- Travel mostly within Switzerland as required to collaborate with partners and other SIB groups (mainly day trips).
Profile requirements
Essential
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related field.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of practice in multi-disciplinary, multi-site project management.
- Minimum 2 years of practice in microbial genomics.
- Excellent knowledge of Python.
- Demonstrated track record in grants and scientific articles writing.
- Good understanding of the specificities of bioinformatics applied to clinical or surveillance practice.
- Autonomous and able to organize and prioritize work to deadlines.
- Capacity to structure and document complex and heterogenous information.
- Very meticulous with great attention to details.
- Team spirit and strong interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility, adaptability.
- Excellent communication skills in English, written and spoken.
Asset
- Some experience in workflow management tools, in particular of nextflow DSL2.
- Some experience in containerization tools.
- Some experience in CI/CD.
- French and/or German, written and spoken.
