Job Description

About the Role:

The Bioinformatics Scientist II will join an interdisciplinary team working with an unprecedented set of clinical DNA whole genome and exome sequence data and multiple epigenetic data types produced by novel R&D pipelines at Guardant Health. The scope of this project provides unique opportunities for developing and learning novel analytical methods for DNA sequencing data, including cell free DNA-based transcript expression and methylation data integrated with epigenetic data sets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with large, complex data sets. Tend to non-routine analysis problems, applying deep epigenetic knowledge to conduct end-to-end analysis of epigenetic cell-free nucleic acid NGS data.

  • Development, continuous improvement, and validations of novel biomarkers for Guardant Health oncology products. 

  • Develop or apply statistical methods and procedures to evaluate and validate Guardant Health technologies.

  • Work with the Technology Development team to develop and analyze verification and validation experiments as part of regulatory submissions.

  • Provide analytic support on individual samples and research activities.

  • Develop scripts for research and development activities, and leverage cutting edge AI methods to continuously improve efficiency.

  • Communicate research results through presentations and project reports as well as scientific publications.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Biological Sciences, Cancer Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Computer Science

  • 1-3 years of experience

Work Environment:

  • Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. 

  • Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. 

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

  • Proven scientific reputation as demonstrated by scientific publication and/or contribution to successful product development in the biotech industry.

  • Deep understanding of modern tools and pipelines in genomics for processing and analysis of primary data, including somatic and structural variant calling.

  • Deep experience with a statistical programming language (e.g., R, python).

  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Information

Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. Your challenges:

  • Mechanically and electrically build complex assemblies with a high degree of accuracy and quality.
  • Set up and operate production equipment in accordance with current manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures.

  • Perform system set ups, application programming on specialized platforms with applications in the automation and robotics.

  • Generate Quality reports, ECR’s and OR’s as deemed necessary for issues found during the build process and Inspections

Your Boarding Pass:

  • 2+ years background in Robotics or Industrial Automation
  • Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical circuits.
  • Working knowledge of the following platforms, Microsoft Office, Google Doc’s, Windows 7/10 desktop and Linux embedded products.
  • Knowledge of the following areas within embedded system development: circuit board testing and troubleshooting, commercial microprocessor platforms and architectures (eg, ARM), and memory management
  • Knowledge of C/C++ and (optionally) .NET C#.  Can understand, develop, and debug low-level software routines as well as system-wide software architecture.
  • Strong skills or aptitude with motor tuning procedures for many classes of motors, especially DC brushless servos and associated PID tuning for point-to-point and free-running applications.  This includes the ability to troubleshoot poorly performing motor systems and apply solutions through improved tuning parameters and techniques.

 Essential Experience/Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or MIS with 10+ years overall experience
  • 4+ years implementing and supporting Oracle (Fusion) Finance applications.  Must be expert with 2 or more modules within the ERP, EPM suites.
  •  5+ years in Analytics, i.e. OAC, FAW (FDIP), and 3+ years with ETL and integrations technologies, specifically OIC or ODI.
  • Hands-on experience with mix of Oracle Analytics Cloud/Oracle Analytics Server, Fusion Data Intelligence, Data Warehouse, SQL, Oracle Integration Cloud, Oracle Data Integrator, Oracle Data Science, and Oracle AI/ML.
  • Significant experience in designing and building Data Warehouse/Data Marts, ideally with integration to/from Oracle applications.
  • Solid grasp of Oracle database, data modelling, data science, AI/ML, and analytics implementation.
  • Ability to craft and articulate strategic solutions around data.
  • In-depth knowledge of implementation methodologies and standard processes
  • Knowledge of Oracle’s SaaS and PaaS solutions.
  • Knowledge and experience of Oracle’s Data Integration solutions.
  • Knowledge of competitive & partner products, technology, and solution.
  • Knowledge of Finance/Insurance industry.
  • Good communication skills. The ability to work in a collaborative and energetic environment with other technology and business disciplines.

Desired Skill

  • Experience with utilizing common tools and technologies such as Jira, Axway, Splunk, ServiceNow, SharePoint.
  • Experience designing and building cloud-based analytics and data integration, and data warehouse solutions.
  • Ability to write PL/SQL code, design and build Data Warehouse/Data Marts.
  • Able to perform complex problem solving and to work cross-functionally with business teams, Partner teams, Oracle Support and Oracle Product Management teams.
  • Programming and scripting languages including SQL, Python, Scala, R etc.
  • Solid understanding of data science concepts.
