Your impact

This is an exciting opportunity for you to contribute to an ambitious Computational Biology research programme, working in partnership with leading Machine Learning (ML) researchers, Chemists and Biologists. Building on the successful models in place to predict protein structure (AlphaFold-3), there is an unique opportunity for a Research Leader to have a direct impact on drug discovery using innovative Computational Biology and ML approaches. This is a newly created role; driven by a passion for problem solving, you will need to use your previous experience and show initiative in order to fully carve out your contribution.

What you will do

  • Use your deep technical experience and scientific knowledge to plan, lead, and deliver original research projects that impact critical problems in drug development.
  • Use your broad expertise to undertake analysis of biomedical datasets, including genetics, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, functional perturbation screens, imaging, knowledge graphs, PPI, clinical or other data types. 
  • Be empowered to develop detailed research directions within the scope of the Computational Biology strategy, and design these projects to make an impact on company goals.
  • Function as a subject matter and technical expert in multi-disciplinary teams, sharing your knowledge and expertise generously with your colleagues.
  • Influence Iso’s strategy, ensuring innovative insights are consistently brought to bear within drug development programmes.
  • Contribute to the wider development of Iso’s ML computational platform, working with other engineers to architect, build, and operate the platform’s components in a cross-disciplinary working environment.
  • Work with other members of the Computational Biology team and key stakeholders to deliver a unified team strategy.
  • Provide documentation, guidance, and communication on computational biology to the wider organisation.
  • Proactively identify complex problems and solve them in a creative and innovative way with minimal guidance.
  • You may have formal line management and/or matrix management responsibilities, as well as responsibility for mentoring junior colleagues to enable the technical work of others.
  • You may represent the company in external situations such as working with partners, within consortia, and with CROs as a project or collaboration lead. 

Skills and qualifications

Essential:

  • A PhD plus extensive experience in computational biology, potentially including in leadership roles
  • Track record of delivery of outstanding research
  • Expertise with detailed data quality control procedures and data visualisation
  • Experience with experimental design, and data generation, quality control and statistical analysis
  • Sophisticated understanding of computational biology methodologies as applied in biomedical research
  • Deep understanding of the principles of molecular cell biology, genetics, or related biological disciplines
  • Familiarity with data processing pipelines and analytical tools
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to a variety of audiences
  • Programming skills in a language such as Python (ideally), or R
  • Experience working in a Linux environment
  • Demonstrate ongoing career progression / trajectory and a passion for learning and problem solving

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience in the context of therapeutic or diagnostic development programmes
  • Familiarity with a variety of assaying techniques, including NGS, cell-based assays, functional genomics, single-cell techniques, and image-based assays with expertise in their respective data analysis approaches
  • Experience working with clinical data
  • Expertise in developing computational biology methods for problems relevant to drug discovery
  • Experience applying computational biology workflows on Google Cloud Platform
  • Strong experience in developing software in Python
  • Hands-on experience in applying ML (especially deep learning) models in the field of computational biology

Your missions 🚀

At Wiremind, the Data Science team is responsible for the development, monitoring and evolution of all ML-powered forecasting and optimization algorithms in use in our Revenue Management systems.

Our algorithms are divided in 2 parts:

  • A modelling of the unconstrained demand using ML models (e.g.deep learning, boosted trees) trained on historical data in the form of time-series 
  • Constrained optimizations problems solved using linear programming techniques.

You will be joining a team shaped to have all profiles necessary to constitute an autonomous department (devops, software and data engineering, data science, AIML, operational research).

There, under supervision of a Wiremind tutor and researchers from UBC (https://www.ubc.ca/), you will push the boundaries of state-of-the-art causal inference modeling for time series.

As a research intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects at the intersection of deep learning and causal modeling.

You will be involved in topics such as:

  • Leveraging causal inference methods like Regression Discontinuity Design or Orthogonal Learning to analyze and model complex demand patterns using time series data. 
  • Developing state-of-the-art deep learning architectures to improve the accuracy of current best models while maintaining causality and elasticity.
  • Exploring the impact of pricing sequences on demand by modeling consumer behavior from a series of price changes instead of single adjustments.

Technical stack:

  • Backend: Python 3.11+ with SQLAlchemy 
  • Orchestration: Argo workflows over an auto-scaled Kubernetes cluster 
  • Datastores: Druid and postgresql 
  • Common ML libraries/tools: TensorFlow/Keras, LightGBM, XGBooost, Pandas, Dask, Dash, Jupyter notebooks

What’s the role?

We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join the Data Platform team at Etsy. You’ll be a leader in our initiative, driving technical strategy and contributing directly to our most critical projects. This role blends hands-on engineering with strategic leadership. You’ll be responsible for guiding our tools and platforms towards a cohesive vision, ensuring they align with business priorities and unlock new opportunities by incorporating the latest industry capabilities. Job Purpose

To monitor the credit life cycle across lending products to provide oversight and optimise the credit portfolio quality; in line with Nedbank business strategy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure prudent credit risk management by monitoring credit portfolio quality to meet Risk Adjusted Return on Capital (RAROC) and Credit Loss Ratio (CLR) targets.
  • Perform monitoring exercise to ensure business alignment to agreed risk appetite measures.
  • Gain consensus and highlight pertinent credit risk issues by preparing and presenting reports to various forums.
  • Challenge model builds from around the cluster through peer review participation and ensuring best practice.
  • Challenge product and/or solution design to ensure congruency with not only the required business specifications, but with the risk frameworks.

Position Overview

Vectra AI’s Security Research Team represents the core security knowledge and research capability within the company primarily tasked with powering our leading-edge technologies and aiding customers. As a member of the Vectra AI Security Research team, you will be part of a highly experienced organization and respected authority on security threats and attack techniques.

Serving in the role of Sr. Security Researcher, you will have a direct impact on the direction of the company by researching threats, understanding how they appear on the network and in the cloud, helping technically shape the product direction. Some of the specific responsibilities include:

  • Perform leading edge security research for network based threats – systems analysis, APT threat modeling, tools assessment, network/protocol analysis, etc.
  • Working directly with our Data Science teams, developing detection capabilities which will be incorporated into the product
  • Participate in on-going efficacy testing of our detection capabilities, producing gap analyses, attack samples, remediation recommendations, and document findings for broad use across the company

What You Will Do

  • Resarch and understand attacker TTPs to remain current as a subject matter expert within Vectra
  • Research new threat detection technologies and investigate innovative approaches to finding attackers operating within customer environments
  • Collaborate across Vectra to identify, research, and develop new detection models – working hand-in-hand with members of data science, consulting services, and other product teams
  • Replicate attacker techniques and tooling to produce samples for use during detection development and for detection validation and gap identification
  • Pursue security research topics that contribute to the knowledge and enumeration of new threats, tactics, and techniques in network, cloud, and hybrid environments
  • Provide an attackers-eye-view to the evidence presented by Vectra products and educate customers to the technical nature of the threat

What Will You Need 

  • Passion for cyber security
  • 5+ years of attack and penetration testing experience in a network environment; or
  • 5+ years direct experience in areas of security research, malware analysis, or incident response
  • Knowledge of corporate security investigation and incident response processes, along with malware detection and mitigation technologies
  • Solid programming skills with scripting languages such as Python

    • Proficiency with network traffic analysis and network forensics tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump
    • Proficiency with host forensics and memory analysis tools to study advanced threat actor activities
    • Strong knowledge of networking and network application concepts: TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, TLS, FTP, RPC, DNS, SMB, Kerberos, etc.

Description du poste :

Au sein du laboratoire des signaux et systèmes de capteurs vous travaillerez avec une équipe de 10 chercheurs.

L’apprentissage basée sur les données (apprentissage machine/machine learning) a révolutionné une grande variété de domaines. Par rapport à d’autres algorithmes de type systèmes experts, basés sur la connaissance, ils ont montré leur capacité à réaliser des tâches complexes (détection d’objets, traduction, synthèse de texte). Néanmoins, entraîner ces modèles nécessite une quantité importante de données, notamment s’il s’agit de réseaux de neurones profonds (deep learning). Par exemple, ChatGPT a été entraîné sur plusieurs centaines de GB.

Que faire pour d’autres tâches pour lesquelles les données d’entraînement sont difficiles ou couteuses à acquérir ? Ou qu’elles ne suffisent pas ? Depuis quelques années, un nouveau paradigme émerge, celui de combiner ces données à une connaissance a priori. En effet, on dispose souvent de connaissances sur la tâche, qui ne sont pas contenues dans les données d’entraînement. On sait par exemple que la sortie du modèle est toujours positive, qu’elle doit respecter la physique, etc. Ajouter cette connaissance permettrait d’atteindre les mêmes performances avec moins de données d’entrainement ou d’obtenir un modèle plus performant. Une des manière d’ajouter cette connaissance a connu un réel engouement : les réseaux de neurone informés par la physique ou physics-informed neural networks (PINNs). Cette méthode permet d’obtenir une solution qui respecte les données d’entrainement et également une équation physique.

Votre stage consistera à appliquer cette méthode dans le cas de la déformation d’une poutre métallique. Pour cela, plusieurs bases de données d’entrainement (expérimentales et synthétiques) ont déjà été acquises. Le laboratoire a également créé artificiellement des défauts sur cette poutre, qu’il faudra localiser.
Vous devrez pour cela :

1.       Réaliser une étude bibliographique sur les PINNs
2.       Appréhender et mettre en forme les bases de données
3.       Entraîner un premier réseau de neurones classique
4.       Entraîner un réseau de neurone informé par la physique
5.       Analyser vos résultats et éventuellement rédiger une publication
Durant tout votre stage, une attention particulière sera portée à l’organisation de votre code, le suivi de versions et sa documentation, ainsi qu’à l’analyse critique des résultats obtenus pour différents paramètres des algorithmes.
