The Data Engineer III is responsible for designing, documenting, and maintaining our organization’s data architecture in alignment with their related system implementations to identify areas of opportunity to improve data quality and drive data governance rigor across the portfolio. In addition to being responsible for reviewing internal customer needs and the related requirements to provide input on the data strategies for potential solutions, the Data Engineer III will also provide input and oversight of data related tasks during the execution phase of departmental and enterprise projects. There will be an overarching theme and focus on data governance and stewardship driven through architecture modeling to support effective decision making when undergoing system or process changes. Additionally, with the uptick in AI initiatives, the Data Engineer III will be integral in helping define the data strategy, identifying data cleansing opportunities and helping to improve our overall data quality. The candidate will need to be bright, imaginative, and a capable technologist with strong communication skills, specifically seeking an environment where they will impact the direction of the organization and be a key contributor to overall success of the business. The pace is exceptionally fast at SNC, and our dynamic environment will see many new projects in the coming year. The Data Engineer III will need to be agile and flexible, as changes will be certain and frequent.

As SNC’s corporate team, we provide the company and its business areas with strategic direction and business support spanning executive management, finance and accounting, operations, human resources, legal, IT, information security, facilities, marketing, and communications.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, business systems analysts, and other project team members to understand their functional and non-functional data requirements and design data models that meet those needs.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, data lineage, and other metadata artifacts to ensure that data is well-governed, accurate and supports authoritative data sourcing.
  • Document and model existing ETL processes to provide insight into current data integrations, areas of opportunity to consolidate or streamline, and/or removing redundancies.
  • Support and help define the data strategy and cleansing activities for AI initiatives.
  • Design, build, and maintain RPAs for data ingestion that are scalable and efficient to bolster accuracy in QA and system testing.
  • Partner with business systems analysts to support the elicitation and cultivation of business needs to translate into detailed requirements documentation; focus will be on the data aspects of the needs to support business process efficiencies.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with at least 6 years of relevant experience
  • Higher education may substitute for relevant experience
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required education
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL), and familiarity with a variety of databases
  • Experience with AWS cloud services: S3, Redshift, Glue
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures and data sets
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on data to answer specific business questions or issues
  • Experience with object-oriented scripting languages and frameworks: Python
  • Source system integration patterns (SQL, APIs)
  • Operational responsibilities (schedules, monitoring, logging, alerting, error handling, etc.)
  • DevOps experience

Preferred:

  • Experience performing root cause analysis on data to answer specific business questions or issues
  • Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, RDS, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena, CloudWatch, ECS, IAM
  • Experience with AWS security: best practices, AWS KMS, AWS Secrets Manager
  • Experience with object-oriented scripting languages and frameworks: Python (BOT03), PySpark, Java, etc
  • Master Data Management (MDM) Solution experience
